The Future Is Unpredictable… But Your Estate Plan Shouldn’t Be

As we wrap up the final topic of our Instagram series, The F-Words of Estate Planning — Future, it only seems fitting to dive a little deeper into the importance of keeping your estate plan updated.
If you haven’t checked out our Instagram yet, now’s the time! We’re planning more series like this in the future, and you can follow along at @ACEMaven_Legal to stay in the loop.
Although I’m not a fortune teller, I’m sensing your estate plan might need an update. The voices — or maybe the crystals, or even the cards — are telling me that the last time you looked at your plan, you were a couple of grandkids (and assets) short of being up to date.
Don’t worry though — at ACEMaven Legal, we make updating your documents just as easy as it was the first time they were drafted (promise only applies if you drafted with us… wink wink).
Currently, our Revocable Living Trust services include a one-year maintenance plan at no additional charge (Terms and Conditions may apply). In 2026, we’re planning to expand these services into a subscription-based maintenance plan, allowing you to always keep the most current version of your estate plan. We know how important it is to keep your documents in step with your life — because life never stops changing.
Here are a few major life events that should prompt you to review or update your estate plan:
Buying a house
Birth or guardianship of a child
Marriage or divorce
Death of a beneficiary
Change or update of assets
If your proposed personal representatives move out of state or change addresses
And let’s be honest — sometimes we change, too. Our values, morals, and wishes evolve over time, and your estate plan should evolve right along with them. Maybe you’ve developed a passion for a cause you’d like to support through a charitable gift after your passing. Or maybe you’ve had a falling out with a friend or family member who’s still listed as a beneficiary or health care power of attorney (you probably don’t want them holding the plug, right?).
That’s why at ACEMaven Legal, we emphasize the importance of keeping your estate plan up to date — so it always reflects who you are now, not who you used to be.
